The HermitGunsmith: Who is he?

One of the most mysterious characters in cave story(that's saying something), this guy is responsible for the creation of the Polar Star, and eventually the Spur. Besides his speal about creators and users, we almost know nothing of him?
Any ideas?

I personally think he was one of the humans that originally came to this island around the time the first Mimga/Robot War, and decided to stick around for whatever reason and start making weapons. Maybe the Mimgas had something to do with this?

Or, if you examine just where he's at, he might possibly be trapped up there. If its the latter, then no wonder he was mad when Quote took his gun. It was his hobby and distraction from the isolation in his life from, you know, being trapped in a cave with no human contact?

Maybe he just like being up there?

Well, he's a hermit. He probably chooses seclusion.

I personally think he was on the island originally because of whatever war there was over the demon crown. He made weapons because it was his job, and it was more efficient to have him on the island. But now everything's blown over, and he's still there. Gunsmith gone philosopher.

Why would the hermit choose to stay, though? I know that being a hermit means, basically, that you live alone in isolation, but for what reason?

It's really hard to get off the island. And, some people are just reclusive xD

Seriously, though, he could've been scarred emotionally, not wanting to go back to the people who were so cruel. Or wounded physically, or is just too old to make the trip. I personally don't like to think on him in particular, just because his speech was so spectacular and the character is never even spoken of.

When you put it that way, it makes for a compeling argument. I like your ideas on him!
I do respect your opinion of obliviousness on him, because some character are just better when their are gaps for people to fill in.
